Nikon Australia has announced the launch of the Nikon DL premium compact series which features three new models – the DL18-50mm f/1.8-2.8, DL24-85mm f/1.8-2.8, and the DL24-500mm f/2.8-5.6.
Nikon’s DL cameras are equipped with fixed Nikkor lenses; an advanced Hybrid AF system that combines phase-detection AF and contrast-detect AF; SnapBridge for transferring images to paired smart devices via Bluetooth; a 1.0-inch CMOS sensor; 4K video recording and more.
With focal lengths ranging from ultra wide to long range zoom, the DL range is designed to appeal to photographers based on lens preference.
All three cameras in the DL range share a 20.8-megapixel, 1.0-inch (13.2 x 8.8mm) CMOS sensor and are paired with Nikon’s new Expeed 6A image processor, which allows for a top ISO of 12800 and 4K/UHD video recording at 30p. All three cameras have ‘Dual Detect VR’ to reduce the effects of camera shake. They also use fluorine coatings to keep moisture and oil off the front lens element. Each model features a manual focus ring around the lens. The Hybrid AF system combines 105 phase-detect with 171 contrast-detect points which allows the camera to shoot at 20fps with continuous autofocus.
The DL18-50mm f/1.8-2.8 offers a Nano Crystal Coat to reduce unwanted ghosting and flare. The DL18-50 also features a host of optical technologies adapted from Nikon DSLRs that work together to suppress lens aberrations. Nikon says that while the DL24-85mm f/1.8-2.8 is very similar to the DL18-50mm, it incorporates a lens design that creates well-blended background blur at short shooting distances with a minimum focusing distance of 3cm, focus peaking and bracketing and manual priority AF.
The DL24-500mm f/2.8-5.6 is aimed at long-range shooters with a Dual Detect Optical VR module for reducing image movement, and a fully articulating rear display. The DL 24-500 is also the only DL model to incorporate a microphone input jack for audio recording.
